Children's reading education
Child education experts from the University of Cambridge and the University of Glasgow in the UK have found in recent decades that childhood is an important stage of cognitive development. Especially when children's personal experience and scope of activities are somewhat limited compared to adults, reading opens another window for them. In recent years, the Chinese government has also emphasized the importance of children's reading and the role of adults in this practice. In October 2020, the Central Propaganda Department issued the Opinions on Promoting National Reading Work. In 2022, the 20th National Congress will bean important deployment for deepening national reading. It mentioned the importance of reading at younger ages and emphasized that we should stimulate the interest in reading; actively integrate all people into reading; promote the collaborative development of schools, families, and society; strengthen the construction of digital resources; and enrich and expand the forms of reading.
This featured event aims to form a dialogue on children's reading in China, inviting families, school representatives, and academic experts who are experienced in children's reading to interact with the audience. The aim is to regard children's reading activities as an organic combination of three ends rather than separate behaviors. Especially in the era of digital intelligence, children are not only observers, but also active participants, and are the subjects of the act of reading. Under this background, what active and passive changes have occurred in schools, families, and academia? And how do we respond to these changes?
