教育公平分论坛 | Education Equity Panel


自2015年中国启动全面脱贫计划后,城乡学校之间的差距已在不断缩小。即便当地学校不再缺乏所需的硬件设施及教学用具,因为教师短缺以及缺乏先进的教学手段,乡村学校在教学质量方面于城市学校相比仍存在较大差距。为了更好地提升乡村教学质量、促进城乡教育公平,近年来不同领域的专业人士和学者通过各种方式支持乡村教育。然而实现教育公平不是件一蹴而就的事情,达成这一目标需要我们每一个人的关注和支持。因此,作为教育学者和践行者,我们希望通过此论坛让观众从“全面脱贫”到“乡村振兴”的时代背景中,了解教育公平目前的真实现状及挑战,见证各领域学者、公益人士等已取得的成果,并为教育公平的未来发展引发思考并提供方向。与此同时,共同探讨我们可以如何更好地衔接资源,通过集结社会的力量帮助到乡村学校的真实需求?

Since China initiated its decision to win the battle against in 2015, the gap between urban and rural schools has been narrowed in terms of education infrastructures and teaching facilities. Nonetheless, the disparities in the teaching quality still remain owning to the lack of qualified teachers and advanced methodology. Over the past decades, professionals and scholars in different fields have tried to mitigate the situation through various means. However, education equity is a long-term commitment that requires awareness and contribution from every one of us. Therefore, as education scholars and practitioners, we intend to lend insight to our audience through interactive conversations, help them comprehend the reality and challenges of education equity from "poverty-alleviation completion" to today's "rural revitalization", invite them to recognize the efforts of scholars and activists in constructing equal education opportunity and elicit their awareness and ideas in the future development of education equity. Specifically, what new resources do rural schools need most right now? As members of the community, how can we better serve or help the rural schools?

大量行业研究发现乡村孩子到了高年级普遍学习动力不足,容易出现厌学现象。其核心原因是孩子不知道未来可以做什么,也不知道学习和自己的未来有什么关系。一公斤盒子将与中国哈佛教育论坛及源公益一起联合发起“盒子源梦计划”,为乡村儿童提供职业认知夏令营。让孩子通过PBL (Problem-Based Learning method) 项目制学习的方式体验不同的职业任务,探寻自己的兴趣,构建社会认知与自我优势发现,激发对未来职业的想象力。同时,参与儿童通过与志愿者的互动和小组合作学习,能够构建良好的同辈关系,发展社会情感能力。
Studies show that children in rural areas generally lack motivation to study in senior years in primary schools. Many of these children revealed that neither do they have a goal for their future, nor know how to apply the education they were receiving in their future life. To resolve to problem, 1KGBOX will launch the "Box X Origin Youth Project" together with Harvard Education Forum China and Origin Youth to provide inspirational summer camps for rural children. This camp allows children to experience work in different occupations through PBL (Problem-Based Learning method), to explore their own interests, to build social cognition and self-awareness, and to stimulate their imagination for future occupations. At the same time, children in the camp will also build good peer network and develop social-emotional skills through interactions with volunteers as well as other students through group work.

随着工业化、城市化的进程,城乡教育差距日益加剧。在硬件设施改善的同时,乡村孩子的素质教育资源十分匮乏。一公斤盒子是一家专注于乡村教育创新设计的公益机构,通过设计一系列支持乡村教师和志愿者的多元教学工具包,让美术、阅读、生活技能和社会认知等乡村儿童成长缺失的教育以最低成本、大规模的方式输送给有需要的学校,用设计的力量让每个村庄成为没有围墙的学校。目前一公斤盒子项目已覆盖6500多所学校,影响学生超过65万人,是中国最具影响力和创新性的教育公益项目,并于2016年入围WISE世界教育创新奖。
With the evolving industrialization and urbanization, the disparity of education between urban and rural areas in China has become more and more notable. While the government pays close attention to the improvement of educational facilities in rural areas, the quality of education is still impacted by teaching resources which could be reached by the instructors. 1KGBOX is a non-profit organization focusing on resolving the problem by developing innovative education design. With the series of professional teaching kits with diversified themes provided by 1KGBOX, volunteers and teachers serving in rural areas are able to offer their students a variety of courses including arts study, occupational introduction, life skills learning, social awareness improvement, and etc. with the lowest cost. In this way, the kits allow schools located in rural areas to achieve similar resources as the schools in urban areas, providing students there with more essential and innovative courses. Currently, 1KGBOX project has covered more than 6,500 schools and provided more than 650,000 students with more inspiring education kits. As one of the most influential and innovative education public welfare projects in China, it was nominated for the WISE World Education Innovation Award in 2016.

Origin Youth | 源公益介绍

“源公益”的全称为北京科学教育发展基金会源公益专项基金(以下简称“源公益”),成立于2016年,是一家倡导青少年社会责任意识, 有效保障贫困地区儿童安全,健康,受教育权的非营利组织。源公益致力于通过多样化的公益模式全方位改善欠发达地区的教育现状,以短期支教、书信交流、远程网课等一系列活动为中国乡村教育提供支持。
截止2021年12月,源公益累计组织线下支教活动13期,线上书信活动2期;援建学校7所、图书馆7所、微机教室2所、卫生间及浴室1间;累计服务志愿者500余人;受益学生2000余人。
Founded in 2016, Origin Youth is a non-profit organization that advocates the awareness of social responsibility among youth and the safety, health and education of children in underdeveloped areas. It provides support for rural education in China through a series of activities such as short-term volunteer teaching, letter exchange and online learning.
By December 2021, Origin Youth has organized 13 volunteer teaching activities and 2 online letter activities, donated 7 schools, 7 libraries, 2 computer classrooms, and 1 bathroom. To date, Origin Youth has recruited over 500 volunteers. More than 2,000 students have benefited from its programs.

Dr. Chen's work is primarily concerned with the ways in which language and literacy environments of young children-in and out of school, monolingual and bilingual-can be designed to support children's development. Her research aims to detect the effectiveness of randomized literacy interventions in China, especially in rural early childhood education settings. Using experimental, quasi-experimental, and observational methodologies, Dr. Chen has studied: the causal impacts of bilingual curricular resources on the vocabulary development of language minority children in China, the effects of large-scale family-oriented shared book reading interventions on parental education beliefs and children's vocabulary development, and how free-of-charge early childhood facilities in villages improve economically disadvantaged children's academic achievement in elementary schools.

Prof. Qin's primary research interests include educational policy, rural education, and curriculum theory. Since 2000, he has published papers including Basic Judgment and Governance for the Development of Small-scale Rural Schools, How Education Works in Promoting Rural Development, and Education to Promote Common Prosperity: Strategic Layout in journals such as the Journal of Educational Research and Guangming Daily. His work was selected into the Top Ten Educational Voices of China Education News in 2020. Many of his papers were reprinted in full by Xinhua Digest and China Social Science Excellence.

王振耀,教授,博士生导师,北京师范大学中国公益研究院院长,深圳国际公益学院创始院长。哈佛大学肯尼迪政府学院公共管理硕士,北京大学政府管理学院法学博士。第14届2019“爱心奖”获得者。王振耀教授曾在国家民政部工作2年,为普及中国农村直接选举制度、建立城乡最低生活保障制度、创建国家自然灾害应急救助四级响应体系作出了重要贡献,在汶川地震救灾过程中受到国家表彰,并推动建立了孤儿津贴、老年人高龄津贴等多项国家基本社会福利制度。2010年6月,北京师范大学聘任王振耀教授为中国公益研究院院长。在王振耀院长带领下北京师范大学中国公益研究院在公益慈善、儿童福利和养老服务研究,在慈善立法、公益政策改革、儿童福利与养老服务体系建设的咨询方面完成了许多重要的项目,已经成为相当有影响力的中国公益智库。

Prof. Wang holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Ph.D from Peking University. He has been awarded the 14th Compassion Award in 2019. Prof. Wang previously worked for over 22 years at China's Ministry of Civil Affairs (MOCA) where he was instrumental in launching several renowned national policies including direct village elections and the country's urban/rural minimum welfare social safety net system. Following the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in China, he established the National Natural Disaster Response System, a four-tiered mechanism for coordinated emergency response. While at MOCA, Prof. Wang also focused on expanding social security benefits to the country's most vulnerable, reforming the national welfare system to provide allowances and greater support to groups such as orphans and senior citizens. Prof. Wang helms the Beijing Normal University China Philanthropy Research Institute (CPRI), which he founded in June 2010. Under Prof. Wang's leadership, CPRI has become a leading philanthropy think-tank, which drives national discourse on China's social services and charitable sector. In addition to its research, CPRI also provides professional philanthropy consulting services and has completed a number of influential projects related to charity law and policy reform, child welfare, and senior citizen service systems reform.

心理教育分论坛将探讨在信息化的时代背景下中国心理健康资源的发展,旨在帮助家长及教育工作者认识并学会如何满足青少年的心理需求,从而创造一个多元化的教育环境。 例如,探讨心理科普在教室中的可能性、提高家长对青少年心理健康的关注、以及倡导社会提供更多可及性心理资源。我们希望可以通过嘉宾们的分享,给家长、学生、以及教育工作者带来对心理健康的新认知与思考。

The Mental Health & Wellbeing Education panel will discuss how to develop China's mental health resources in the context of the information age. We aim to help parents and educators recognize and meet the need for the mental health of adolescents, therefore creating a more diversified education environment. Possible actions include exploring the possibility of mental health education in the classroom, improving parents' ability to discover adolescents' mental health status, and advocating for more accessible mental health resources in society. We hope to bring new understanding and thinking about mental health to parents, students, and educators in this panel.

中国近年来涌现了许多小微创新学校与民间教育组织,但是大多只面向少数拥有足够资源、家庭条件优越,以及愿意尝试非传统教育模式的家庭。由于现阶段创新教育的运营成本巨大且教育出口不明确,对学费的质疑,实验性教育的风险,以及学生毕业后升学走向等一系列问题引起了广泛的讨论。 2021年颁布的“双减”教育新政引起了社会对于中国教育公平以及教育未来方向的反思。 因此,在这样的背景下,当我们再次探讨创新教育时,应当如何界定“创新”?新型的教育模式只适用于中国少数的学生群体吗?如何将非传统教育普世化,以此推动中国教育公平和资源平等?这些将会成为2022年的创新教育领域全新的挑战,也是本论坛关注的重点。

Many innovative educational institutions have recently emerged in China but most of them are only accessible to adventurous families that have sufficient financial and human resources. Due to the nature of innovative education and high operational cost, there are doubts about the effectiveness of innovative schools and institutions. For example, the tuition fee, the outcome of innovative education, and the future education routes after graduation. On top of that is the debate around education equity and the future of education in China, triggered by the “Double Reduction” policy promulgated by the Chinese government in 2021. Hence, when we look at innovative education again, how do we define innovation? Is innovative education only suitable for a small group of students in China? How do we embed innovative education into mainstream education? And how can innovative education be employed to support the development of education equity in China?

Ms. Hayes was a partner at Deloitte, having worked in San Francisco, Beijing, and Hong Kong. She also served as the China expert and led inspections for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, an organization established by the U.S. Congress, overseen by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).The takeaway that Wendy wants to share with all audiences is: under the new government education policies, finding innovative ways to meet educational needs and stay aligned with policies presents challenges and opportunities for educators and investors alike.

In 2015, Dr. Sun founded Veritas China with Yunpeng Bai and Ziqian Tao. For seven years, Veritas China has been entirely student-run and managed, exploring a way to promote liberal arts education in China on a non-profit basis. Combining online and offline modes, Veritas has delivered a hundred courses with thousands of students. Since 2019, Veritas has been adding to its online content (podcasts and newsletters) while maintaining its offline activities in China, bringing liberal arts education to more needed areas. Mr. Sun is currently studying at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and focusing on Computational Neuroscience.

音乐,一个当今国内大众探讨教育时不常关注到的领域。尽管音乐和我们生活紧密关联, 但我们却还不太理解它对生命的意义。音乐?也是一种值得探讨和重视的教育吗?大众对于音乐教育或有不解,教育工作者对于音乐教育的本质亦常有认知偏差;而社会,在高竞争环境下,对于音乐艺术教育不乏误解甚至轻视。然而不可否认的是,音乐教育对于人的全面发展,心智成熟,审美体系,洞察思辨,创造即兴能力有各方面意义。在互联网时代的背景下,音乐教育从来没有像今天这么简单过,也从来没有像今天这么困难过。如何理解创新与初心两者之间的冲突和关系,如何在互联网时代的教育下找寻音乐教育在最根本上带给人的联结?我们希望通过本次论坛,带领大众回归认识与享受音乐的初心,携手古典、流行、音乐教育与传播实践者,从学习、教学、事业及倡导等多个角度, 探讨如何与时俱进地将音乐教育回归到本质与初心。

When talking about education in China today, music, as a subject, is rarely at the center of attention. Although it is everywhere in our world, few truly grasp the significance of music in life. Music education? How much is it worthy to be prioritized and discussed? Most understand little about music education, and many educators misunderstand the core nature of a good music education. Our society at large, in an age of heightened competition, often dismisses the importance of music education and other general arts. But it is not to be denied that music contributes to the creative, intellectual, mental and spiritual aspects of human growth and development. With the global internet, music education has been never so accessible yet ever so challenging. What is the dynamic between music the force of innovation and music the link to our ancestral quest for beauty? How do we situate music education in a fast-paced digital society, and call for its returning to the fundamental role in human existence? We hope, through a panel discussion on music education by practitioners in various musical genres, educational focuses and professional trajectories, our audience may walk away with a renewed understanding of music education that is relevant, connected and meaningful for lifelong learning in our time.

Many ensembles and organizations have awarded Denisch including the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin in Moscow, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with the Philadelphia Classical Symphony; the Calyx Trio, and the Radius Ensemble. Other institutions that have commissioned and/or supported Denisch's music include The PatsyLu Fund, the Composer’s Guild, American Music Center, Our Bodies Ourselves, and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.

Boston native Julia Glenn has been hailed as "remarkable", "gripping”, and "a brilliant soloist" by the New York Times and performs internationally on modern and baroque violins. Glenn is a 2018 graduate of Juilliard’s C.V. Starr doctoral program. She obtained her master's from New England Conservatory and her bachelor's from Harvard University. Glenn has recently presented talks and lecture-performances on her work at the Harvard Shanghai Center, Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Harvard University, Shanghai Conservatory, Beijing Central Conservatory, and The Juilliard School. Julia Glenn now teaches violin and Music Theory as faculty in the pre-college and graduate department of the Tianjin Juilliard School.

疫情和政策的不确定性给中国有关国际教育的发展带来了诸多挑战。为应对时代多重挑战,为保持国际教育帮助受教育者扎根本土、拥有知识与技能的初心,国际教育应当如何拥抱不确定性?在课程设置和理念探索上应有哪些创新?疫情后的国际教育在中国又会如何开展?缘此,从国际教育本土化的思考与实践角度出发,为探索构建在教育基本理论、中外合作办学模式、国际课程创新的方向,国际教育分论坛特邀请中美前沿理论学者和奋战在一线的实践者,一同探讨疫情背景下国际教育的延续、摒弃和创新。

The COVID-19 pandemic and the updated national education policies have posed challenges to international education in China. At the same time, international education continues to equip students with skills and knowledge to conquer the challenges they face: from climate change to the pandemic, from seizing the opportunities in digitalization to contributing to the boom of artificial intelligence. How can international education in China respond to these challenges faced by itself and by learners? How can education leaders be innovative in localizing curricula and global education ideologies? What will international education in China look like in the post-pandemic world? In this panel, we will discuss the localization of international education in China, specifically from the aspects of international education theories, exploratory steps taken by Sino-foreign cooperative universities, and the innovation of international curricula. We aspire to engage in conversations with top scholars and practitioners from the US and China to discuss and contemplate several aspects of international education in China that need sustainability, revolution, and innovation.

Jeffrey Sean Lehman has been the chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, co-convener of the U.S.-China Trade Policy Working Group, chair of the Institute for China-US Law and Policy Studies, chair of Internet, president of the American Law Deans Association, a trustee of the Skadden Fellowship Foundation, and an independent director of Infosys, Ltd. He is an honorary citizen of Shanghai and a recipient of China’s Friendship Award. In 2018, China named him one of the “most influential foreign experts” during the country's first forty years of “reform and opening up”.

Prof. Reimers is a member of UNESCO’s Commission on the Futures of Education. As an expert in the field of global education, Dr. Reimers's research and teaching focus on understanding how to educate children and youth. He has developed curricula aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which are in use in many schools throughout the world. His current work focuses on educational innovation and on the impact of education policy, leadership, and teacher's professional development on education that supports the holistic development of children and youth. He has served on the Harvard faculty since 1998. Before that, he worked at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, the Harvard Institute for International Development, and the World Bank.

家庭教育的本质是爱的教育。通过好的家庭教育,亲子间爱的纽带得以加强。在爱的滋养下的儿童会更具安全感,更好地发展社会情感技能,成长为心中有爱的大人。我们坚信,无论社会环境在发生什么改变,爱的教育仍然是立人之本。在CES家庭教育分论坛中,我们邀请了来自不同领域的三名专家,着眼于家庭教育中备受关注的阅读、游戏与交流三个方向,分享儿童如何在亲子共读中进行情感学习、父母如何通过做游戏激发孩子的自信与勇气,以及亲子沟通的技巧与策略。相信嘉宾的分享既能为家长提供营造有爱的家庭环境的有效建议,也能为关心教育的朋友带来家庭教育领域最前沿的研究结果。

Family education is the education of love. Effective family education strengthens the bond within a family. Research has shown that children who grow up in a loving family feel more secure and will develop better socio-emotional skills, allowing them to be more emotionally intelligent and happier. We believe that the education of love is the foundation of education, regardless of any change in the social environment. In this panel, we have invited experts from three areas reading, games, and communication. Our speakers will discuss the development of children’s socio-emotional skills through reading with their parents, ways to foster children’s confidence and courage through games, and effective parent-child communication strategies. We believe that the panel will provide the audience with effective suggestions for creating a loving family environment and cutting-edge research insights into family education.

2003年毕业于美国内布拉斯加大学,获哲学博士学位。1988年开始从事儿童性教育研究和实践工作至今。著有:《大学生性健康教育读本》《珍爱生命》《创新教育概论》。在中国,越来越多的父母意识到性教育的重要性,但如何在家庭开展性教育,除了政策支持外,还需要家庭性教育的研究,并教育父母成为合格的家庭性教育者,本次分论坛,刘文利教授将分享她对以上话题的见解。

Prof Liu graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2003 with a Ph.D degree. Since 1988, she has been engaged in the research and practice of children's sexuality education. Her published books include Sexual Health Education for College Students, Love Your Life, Introduction to Innovative Education. In China, more parents are becoming aware of the importance of sex education for their children. In addition to policy support, the development of sex education within the family is worth academic research. The purpose of this presentation is to share with parents how to become qualified sex educators in the family setting. Professor Liu is looking forward to sharing her insights on these topics during the 2022 CES Family Education panel.

In addition to his private therapy practice, Dr. Cohen is a speaker and consultant to public and independent schools, and a teacher of parenting classes and classes for daycare teachers. Dr. Cohen is the co-author, with Anthony DeBenedet, of The Art of Roughhousing. His books have been translated into fourteen languages. Larry's column in Nick Jr. Magazine was the winner of the 2003 Golden Lamp award from Education Press. Dr. Cohen is also the author of numerous published articles in professional journals and popular magazines, and he has presented his work at professional conferences, workshops, classes, and public appearances.
